Using AFS¶
Make sure you have installed the software and you have a valid Kerberos and AFS account.
Kerberos Tickets¶
- Start up the Network Identity Manager if it is not already running (it should be in the little icons in the bottom right)
- Give it your username and password
- username: your ru username
- domain: DEV.RU.IS
- password: password you setup your DevNet account with. This is different than the password for Jabber and the project system
- If all goes well, it wil turn green. You should see it say that you have "tokens"
Going to your home directory¶
You will need to examine your username to figure out where to go. Since the system is designed for many users, we cannot put them all in the same directory. For my username: foley, the path looks like this on Windows:
\\AFS\dev.ru.is\user\f\fo\foley
On unix and mac:
/afs/dev.ru.is/user/f/fo/foley
Going to project directories¶
- /afs/dev.ru.is/project/devnet
- /afs/dev.ru.is/project/skyward/
Setting access to directories¶
Windows¶
- Right click and look for AFS.
- Set the ACL for the people who should have access. You can also set groups.
