Trypophobia

The Fear of Irregular Patterns of Small Holes

Phobic Properties

Trypophobia is an "informal phobia" that is not recognized by either ICD-10 or DSM-5. Trypophobia seems to be closer to a disgust reflex than a phobia, but some people describe feeling anxious or even experiencing panic attacks when seeing the phobic stimuli. Some psychologists believe the reaction to be an evolutionary one due to the small holes often appearing in homes of venomous insects, maggot-infested wounds and fruit that has gone bad, thus causing a feeling of disgust.
